"Fields of Sorrow"

"Fields of Sorrow" was begun about a month before the start of the war in Iraq, early February 2003. The webpages for each individual page - or field - of the book include text which I wrote to offer a brief gloss on the content of the various pages/fields. These endnotes were added to the book after its completion in October 2003. As I developed the book it branched out from a critique of the Iraq War (which I consider to be a failure of geopolitical imagination) to a broader questioning of the motives of war in general, and specifically in our American past.
