| "Cage
Dies Bird Flies- Phase I" Each painting in "Phase I" presents imagery and unique typography inspired by Miller’s stories. The texts are short - three to seven words. Whimsical and absurdly comic, in the paintings the miniscule narratives are transformed, revealing a darker world. When working on the “CDBF—Phase 1” paintings I felt like I was a character in a Beckett story, fumbling over and over with the simplest of elements – joining comic words to image – moving towards improbable states of significance. A selection from the first set of "Phase I" paintings were awarded a fellowship in Printmaking/Drawing/Book Arts by the New York Foundation for the Arts in 2014. Scroll down to view images. |
