"Awareness Day Portraits" is a group of 49 portraits of figures from American history and culture who have inspired me as citizen and artist.

When I worked on the portraits I felt it important to forego the antic, hybrid figuration typical of my work, and strive for an accurate and expressive likeness of each person - a sacrific in honor of their contributions to American society and culture.
