"Daybreak Duets," 2023—present
Sketchbook drawings of various dimensions.

"Daybreak Duets" emerged from an early morning practice of drawing. Soon after I awake each day I make one drawing and write one poem on the facing page of a sketchbook. I feel that this early morning work allows a freer imagining akin to a dream state. The drawings are always first. Attention is given to prevent the poem from being merely descriptive of the image. Each maintain an independence and perform together much as two musicians improvising a duet. While the drawings remain what they are at the end of the session, the poems go through a revision process of varying lengths of time.
