"Cage Dies Bird Flies- Phase IV"

The text for phase 4 of Cage Dies improvises on the formal conceit of the cameo, presenting 8.5" by 11.5" oval portraits of single invented words. These single word inventions were conceived of as the forceful crashing together of two separate words. The approach to each word cameo portrait therefore incorporated accident and distress as essential ingredients. Each portrait is composed of all of the letters that make up the invented words. Because these portraits are difficult to decode, in many instances the word invention has been written onto the image.
