"Borderland Paintings"

This small group of pictures continued the model introduced in the smaller "Two Figure" paintings but on a larger scale. The boderland is the place between Hope and Fear. After this group I decided to abandon oil painting, and the procedure of working from scaled-up drawings which I first used in "Strugglers and Stragglers."
